Ways to care for your teeth during the easter period
Taking care of your teeth is always prominent throughout the year, but especially during seasons when sugary sweets are around, such as Easter, Christmas and Halloween.
Here are some helpful tips to help you maintain a healthy mouth during the holidays:
Cleaning in between the teeth
Make sure to brush your teeth for 2 minutes a day, but did you know that toothbrushing only cleans 60% of the tooth surface? Flossing in between the teeth removes hard to reach food particles, cleaning your whole mouth.
Rinse after eating sweets
Easter treats such as chocolate eggs leave a film of bacteria and sugar on your teeth, which begin to cause tooth decay. Rinsing your mouth after sugary treats helps wash away some of the bacteria.
Limit sugary sweets
Did you know… By eating your chocolate egg in one sitting, you’re helping your teeth? Eating sugary sweets in one go, reduces the sugar attack on your teeth, rather than snacking throughout the day, which causes many sugar attacks on your teeth.
Choose tooth-friendly snacks
Alternatives to sticky, nutty, gooey, chewy sweet treats may include cheese, nuts, non-acidic fresh fruits and vegetables are better for your teeth.
Chew sugar-free gum
Chewing sugar free gum after eating can help with saliva production which leads to a healthier mouth, by neutralising the mouth PH.
Drink water
Water keeps your mouth hydrated and rinses away any excess food particles.
Visit your dentist
If you’re due a checkup with Matthew, Bolly or Valentin, or a cleaning with Aaron book in to make sure that your teeth are in top shape to prevent pain over Bank Holidays.
Avoid hard sweets
Be careful not to chip or break any teeth on hard sweets. If you do indulge, let them dissolve, rather than biting down.
By following these tips, you can enjoy your easter treats while maintaining a healthy mouth!
